PVC Blaster Guns

This puts the WAR in Star Wars. All Star Wars costumes can be improved with plastic laser guns. You know this by the fact that nearly every Star Wars action figure comes with a laser gun or a blaster rifle of some type. It's interesting to note that both the Rebel Alliance Blaster and the Imperial Stormtrooper Blaster were originally modified from the same WWII vintage machine guns. The inspiration for the PVC plastic Blasters came from Brian Cremeans. He has his own design for a PVC Blaster, click here to go to his site.

STAR WARS REBEL ALLIANCE BLASTER

Materials needed:
1 1/4" PVC pipe. Length 17" (43 cm).
1 1/4" endcap.
1/2" PVC pipe. Length 3 7/8" (10 cm), 2 count.
1/2" inline connector.
Adapter 1/2" to 3/4".
5/8" dowel rod. Length 12" (30.5 cm).
Grip cut from 3/4" thick wood board.
Ammo clip cut from 3/4" thick wood board. Size 2" X 2" square.
Plastic funnel.
Brass strip, length 4 1/2" (11.5 cm).
Wood screws 2 1/4".
Epoxy.

This was designed to be quick and dirty, but you can make this as fancy or as basic as you want. After you paint it black, some of the details get a little lost. The wood pieces of the Rebel Alliance Blaster were sanded a little, but I didn't spend much time with it. All of the pieces were epoxied together and the wood screws were used to attach the grip and the sight to the barrel. Smaller screws were used to attach the trigger guard. There is no trigger because I will eventually build a switch to activate a battery powered red light in the barrel. The funnel is used for the tapered end of the barrel. It was whittled down until it fit.

STAR WARS IMPERIAL STORMTROOPER BLASTER

Materials needed:
1 1/4" PVC pipe. Length 17" (43 cm).
1 1/4" endcap.
PVC schedule 40 adapter 1".
1" PVC pipe. Length 3" (8 cm).
1" end cap.
Adapter 3/4" to 1".
Cable clamps, 2 count.
Brass strip, length 10" (26 cm).
Brass strip, length 4 1/2" (11.5 cm).
Grip cut from 3/4" thick wood board.
Ammo clip cut from 3/4" thick wood board. Size 2" X 2" square.
Windshield wiper blades. Length 5" (13 cm)
Wood screws 2 1/4".
Epoxy.

This is very similar to the Rebel Alliance Blaster as it is meant to be a quick project. The windshield wipers are just the thing to really set this off. Cooling holes may be drilled into the barrel, but I didn't bother doing that with mine.

The ray gun, the standard weapon of classic science fiction, is also the most common weapon in the Star Wars universe under the name "blaster". There are many variations of blasters: pistols, carbines, cannons, assault rifles and even machine guns. For example, Princess Leia Organa wielded a sporting blaster when her ship was boarded by Darth Vader's forces, while Han Solo prefers a heavy blaster pistol (a BlasTech DL-44). One of the most common and well-known blasters is the E-11 blaster rifle, the standard weapon of Imperial stormtroopers. Several of the Star Wars films' fictional weapons are modified from real-life blank firing prop guns: Han Solo's pistol is a customized Mauser C96, while the stormtroopers carry Sterling submachine guns or the World War II-era German MG34 general purpose machine gun, most easily seen in the detention center break-in in Episode IV.

The average output of a blaster is about the same output the modern firearms posses or sometimes lower (Notice- as seen in ROTJ) .[citation needed] The blasters supposedly operate on a Tibanna gas cartridge and a power pack, with the weapon magnetically "bottling" the Tibanna gas and then exciting it as it is fired. This is similar to the actual operation of real-world gas lasers.
